Last updated: July 2026

1. Introduction

Lawperate (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Jamaica Data Protection Act 2020. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights in relation to it.

2. Data We Collect

  • Account data: your name and email address when you register.
  • Password: stored as a one-way cryptographic hash — we cannot read your password.
  • Reviews: the content of reviews you submit, associated with your account.
  • Removal requests: your name, email, and stated reason if you submit a removal request.
  • Usage data: standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited). These are not linked to your account.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To operate your account and allow you to submit reviews.
  • To process and respond to removal requests.
  • To maintain the security and integrity of the platform.
  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
  • We do not use your data for advertising or marketing without your consent.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the basis of:

  • Contract — to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — to maintain the accuracy and integrity of lawyer listings.
  • Legal obligation — where required by Jamaican law.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Reviews are retained to maintain an accurate public record. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 7).

6. Data Security

Your password is hashed using bcrypt. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted to authorised systems only. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure.

Under the Jamaica Data Protection Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@lawperate.com. We will respond within 30 days.
